We all have so many blessings in our lives. And yet most of the time we fail to notice them. We don't recognize them properly, forget them, or simply take them for granted. In reality, these little things have a huge impact on our lives. That's why we should learn to recognize their value.
Of all the decisions that I have taken in my life, joining the NSS has been the best one so far. The greatest and the toughest jobs in this world is putting smiles on others faces. And I am forever grateful to have got an opportunity to have done that.
I'm that kind of person who can get happy as well as hurt over the little things. You don't need the biggest reasons to be happy. Happiness just lies next to you. The only thing you have to do is that walk towards it to experience.
After since I have joined NSS, I noticed so many changes in my life. I know they are not so major that I can boast about them, it's just about a feeling that matters. Suddenly my life seemed very beautiful and valuable to me. I realized the importance of people in my life.
By joining NSS, I opted a journey to discover myself. I learnt about all my strengths and weaknesses. I can definitely tell that I started socializing with people and learnt amazing skills and leadership qualities by working as a team amongst people with different streams. I started exploring different cultures, and started realizing the actual situations/problems in our surroundings, in villages specially, through NSS special camps. The self satisfaction which I got is worth of spending time in it. Believe me or not it is one of the best extra curricular activities to be a part of. I learnt a lot about participating, performing and organizing an event. It also helped me in developing public speaking quality.
Some of the activities that we had undertaken includes Blood donation camps, Orphanages and Old age home visits, Plantation drives, Adopting one of the villages nearby and contribute in its development, Polio camp, Free public health checkup camps, Self defense for women, Sports day, Celebrating different days like World Environment Day, Woman's Day, etc., Traffic and Voting awareness programmes and many more.
The best event, which I call as an experience, in NSS was the orphanage visits. When we got to the orphanage, we were greeted by a lot of cute little children who welcomed us with their beautiful smiles, even though we were meeting them for the first time. This moment was very heartfelt and touching.
The moments spent there is etched in my memory. I wondered what their lives was like without parents, without love and without someone to guide them. I could understand how much the time we spent with them meant to them. I felt blissful for doing something for other people, seeing those children happy with whatever they have, that made me value the things that I have which I sometimes took for granted.
This quality time spent in the orphanage was of great meaning to me. It showed me the other side of my life and the value of the things I had. When I saw the kids, I came to know how lucky I was. My problems which seemed to me as the worst ever were just uncomparable to what those kids faced. Since then I have been trying to give back to the society and help people live their lives to the fullest.
Happiness is nothing but the choices that we make in our personal life. Above all, when we look within and talk with our inner self, we realize that we do not require money or other things to be happy. In fact the smallest things in our daily life can also bring us happiness. Unfortunately we are living in a world that gives a lot of importance on materialistic wealth.
Happiness lies within us and we all must feel very happy with our inner self first. Every decision you make can be a new reason to smile.
When your smile can make someone else's day, then why not?
