MENstruation- The social stigma!

Women are the best creation of God, but here the reality is something different. On one hand, women are worshipped as goddesses, and on the other hand, they are shamed in multiple ways. Women are the strongest personalities to have around in our lives in the form of a daughter, a mother, a sister or friends. But this simple fact is not recognized by everyone around us.

Women were given the power to create life and as we know very well, it is not an easy thing to deal with. Women go through a lot of things in their lives, even without letting anybody know about it. It is absolutely not as easy as it seems like. The pain, the mood swings, the cramps, the stress, the headache, the PMS, the weight gain, the stretch marks, the PCOD and what else.

Menstruation is considered as a stigma or a taboo in India. A lot of people are neither willing to talk about it nor treat it as a normal body function. We all have been taught this as something very impure and unholy. But there is really a harsh reality behind all these.

We are living in the civilized world and yet we behave like uncivilized. Period is one of the most ignored human rights issues around the country. Most of the people, specially in the rural areas are totally unaware of it. It is an extremely important issue because it affects how girls view themselves, and inturn it affects confidence, and confidence is the key to everything.

People usually talk about gender equality but never about menstruation, even though the word itself has "MEN" in it. How ironic!

During these times personal hygiene and sanitization is extremely important. Not everyone in this country can afford sanitary napkins. All women should be granted access to clean, affordable menstrual materials and safe, private spaces to care for themselves.

Start loving your body, as it is a completely natural process and there's nothing to worry about it since this is a method of cleansing. It is an emotional and physical detox that releases stress and tension from your body, allowing you to properly rest and repair. Go out and treat yourself with some ice creams and chocolates. Do whatever makes you happy. Relax and enjoy your life.

If you know someone who is going through their bad days, make them happy. A sweet gesture from you can make them switch their mood. And if you already have someone who cares about you even during your bad days, show your gratitude to them.

Once you read this, go and thank all the women in your lives for making it what it is today. ❤️
